About Angelo Mathews
Angelo Mathews is one of Sri Lanka’s most experienced modern cricketers, known for calm batting, useful seam bowling, and leadership. A right-handed middle-order batter, he has spent much of his career rescuing difficult innings and guiding younger players through pressure situations. Mathews made his international debut in 2008 and later captained Sri Lanka across formats, earning a reputation for thoughtful and composed decision-making and personal responsibility. At his best, he combines solid defence with clean attacking strokes, particularly against pace. Earlier in his career, his right-arm medium bowling gave the team an important balancing option, although injuries gradually reduced his workload. Mathews has played major roles in memorable Sri Lankan victories and remained a dependable presence through periods of transition. His patience, experience, and game awareness continue to make him valuable in franchise cricket. Even late in his career, he remains capable of controlling an innings and producing decisive performances.
