Early Cricket Journey
Sameer began playing tape-ball cricket in the streets of Multan before moving into organised hard-ball cricket. His father recognised his ability and encouraged him to take the sport seriously.
He represented Multan Region at Under-13 level during the 2018-19 season. He later captained South Punjab Under-13 and helped the team reach the final. His performances also earned him a place in the PCB’s development programme for young players.
Playing alongside Arafat gave Sameer a close example of the discipline required to progress through Pakistan’s cricket system. The PCB has covered his early development in a feature about Sameer Minhas’s journey to Pakistan Under-19s.
Rise Through Pakistan Under-19 Cricket
Consistent performances in regional competitions eventually earned Sameer selection for Pakistan Under-19s.
He developed into an attacking opener who could build an innings without losing his natural scoring ability. Instead of trying to dominate every delivery, he usually assesses the conditions and bowling before increasing the scoring rate.
This balance made him effective in Youth ODI cricket, where he could provide stability and accelerate after becoming established.
Outstanding 172 Against India
Sameer gained wider attention during the 2025 ACC Men’s Under-19 Asia Cup. He finished as the tournament’s leading run-scorer with 471 runs in five matches at an average of 157.
His biggest innings came against India in the final at the ICC Academy in Dubai on December 21, 2025.
Opening the batting, Sameer scored 172 runs from 113 deliveries, including 17 fours and nine sixes. His innings helped Pakistan reach 347 for eight.
Pakistan then dismissed India for 156 and won by 191 runs. Sameer received the Player of the Match award for an innings that combined patience, controlled aggression and excellent shot selection.
The full match details are available in the official PCB report on Pakistan’s Under-19 Asia Cup final victory.
Pakistan were led by Farhan Yousaf during the tournament. You can also read the Farhan Yousaf player profile.
Fastest Century in Men’s Youth ODI Cricket
Sameer continued his strong form in January 2026 during an Under-19 tri-series in Zimbabwe.
In the final against Zimbabwe Under-19s, he reached his century in only 42 deliveries, setting the record for the fastest hundred in Men’s Youth ODI cricket. He eventually scored 114 from 51 balls, including 17 fours and five sixes, as Pakistan completed a nine-wicket victory.
The innings showed his versatility. His 172 against India displayed patience, while the 42-ball century demonstrated rapid scoring.
The achievement was confirmed in the official PCB report on Sameer Minhas’s record century.

What Makes Sameer Minhas Special?
Sameer’s batting is built around timing, balance and shot selection rather than power alone. His Under-19 performances show that he can construct long innings, while his PSL numbers prove that he can score quickly in T20 cricket.
He also appears calm under pressure and understands match situations. He can defend, rotate the strike or attack depending on what the team needs.
His ability to adjust between one-day and T20 cricket is particularly encouraging. In Youth ODIs, he has demonstrated patience and the ability to produce big scores. In the PSL, he showed that he could maintain a strike rate above 150 against senior bowlers.
Sameer still needs experience against high-quality fast bowling, especially when the ball is moving, and must prove himself on different pitches.
First-class cricket will also test his concentration and patience across longer innings. Regular domestic cricket, Pakistan Shaheens opportunities and quality coaching may provide the strongest pathway towards senior international selection.
Pakistan will also need to manage expectations carefully. Strong performances at youth level do not always guarantee immediate international success. Sameer should be allowed to develop through domestic cricket rather than being rushed into the national side.
Final Thoughts
Sameer Minhas has already achieved several major milestones before the age of 20.
He has scored more than 1,000 Youth ODI runs, played a match-winning 172 against India in an Under-19 Asia Cup final, recorded the fastest century in Men’s Youth ODI history and scored 349 runs during his first PSL season.
These performances suggest that Pakistan has a young batter with technique, confidence and the temperament required for important matches.
The next stage of his career will bring stronger opponents and greater expectations. If Sameer continues to improve with the same discipline and composure, he could become an important player for Pakistan in the future.
